The Hat Game
Friday, March 20th, 2009
There have been a group of us out here in Austin Texas for the SXSW interactive festival[thanks to Arts Council England and SWRDA]. We brought a game out to the festival to do some viral marketing and to have some fun and we got both. The game is pretty simple, we made a GPS enabled Bowler hat that you can track using a google map. Track it down and say “I do believe your wearing my hat” the wearer will then hand on the hat to you and you need yo upload your pic to the gallery to start your turn[there are also twitter and SMS only ways of playing the game]. Its a constant source of amazement to me that such simple games can cause such extreme responses from their players. I’ll try to catalogue some of these stories here later but for now here are a couple of vids. Here is the video that got to be the most watched video on the BBC, and here is the video bit by Aleks Krotoski’s Guardian games blog.
