iglab#4 we tip out hat to mayfest

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

its been a mighty busy month of games, making games and playing games but this months iglab is but one short week away so get ready because theres a lot on…
so much so that we are expanding the bill…
this month sees bristol in the middle of mayfest,
http://mayfestbristol.co.uk/
a month of experimental theater and performance. if you’ve played any games at iglab you’ll see the connection between street based performance/ experimental/ interactive theater and pervasive/ street/ iglab style games… and all that jazz
so with this slightly theatrical turn…
iglab #4 will be on the 21st and the 22nd of may thats weds and
thursday of next week

the line up at the moment looks something like this

7pm Wednesday

Trenchard st car park

Sneaks and Liggers
by Speakman and Johnson (Duncan, me and the all star game team…)

a reinterpretation of Snakes and Ladders played up and down the slopes and stairs of trenchard st car park

This promises to be crazy fun and the winner will receive the sort after perhaps even coveted ligged drink…

Then from 8pm till 10ish you can

journey to the end of the night…

This is one of the best loved street games so far devised
i think it originated on SF0 but i may be wrong on that
whatever its origins its being brought to us this month by mr Ed Rapley

Meet at 8pm at the Arnol Fini for this one (we will go straight from S&L to this game with perhaps a cheeky half on the way)

This is a nice tale of a game played off in the smokey blue distance…

And on the Thursday night from 7pm we’ll be back in our regular local at the PM Studio and the line up looks something like this

cruel to by kind
a game designed by Jane McGonigal

and once again presented by the talented Mr Rapley

This game will have you dealing out complements in the street as you politley charm your way to poll position or find your secret vanity your fatal floor as an unknown stranger defeats you with a line like “you have pretty eyes…”.

the Comfort of Strangers v3 (this time it works(we think))
This will be the last test of this game before we take it of to NYC to the come out and play festival on the 6-8 june*
http://www.comeoutandplay.org/
and hide and seek in london on the 26-29th of june*
http://www.hideandseekfest.co.uk/

meanwhile back at the lab…

if weve finish it in time we will head out and play another new game

All the world is a sage (daling)
another one by speakman & johnson
details on that as they arrive

There will also be some theatrical games back at the lab and to top it off we’ll warm up our new 5K lumen projector and play some giant outdoor xbox games prob geometry wars in a kind of games as performance bit…

phew…
thats a lot of games
and we still have the blessing of SW Screen’s generosity in the form of some free drinks(on the thursday)

as usual these events are free but it really helps if you sign up for them before hand

here is a general sign up to the main night on thurs the 22nd

and as if thats not all enough
the sneaky scoop is that igfest will be rolling its mighty tentacles
into town this september from the 19-21st
thats right three full days of games across the city
so these May games may be merry but there’ s many more games on their way…

more on that to follow

see you all next week…

*if you don’t know these festivals i recommend checking them out
New York might be a bit of a trip but Hide and Seek is only in London
and looks like its going to be fantastic this year…
